Welcome back to Buzz Movers, where we read the tea leaves of our Buzz Score — the 0–100 number we compute from real YouTube engagement and AniList community data. Last time, Re:Zero Season 4 sat untouchable at a perfect 100.0.
This week, something bigger than any single show happened: the calendar flipped to July, and the whole board reset.
The season handover
Our main ranking always tracks the current season, and as of July 1 that means summer 2026. The spring cohort — Re:Zero's perfect run included — has graduated to the spring season page, and 102 summer titles now compete on a fresh scoreboard.
So who came out of the gate swinging?
The new king: Mushoku Tensei Season 3
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 (Studio Bind) opens the season at a near-perfect 98.5, with almost 60 million YouTube views already attached to its trailers and clips — the largest raw number on the entire summer board. The isekai standard-bearer hasn't lost a step: this is the most anticipated continuation of the season, and the data isn't subtle about it.
The heavyweight challengers
The top five is essentially a parade of legacy franchises:
- THE GHOST IN THE SHELL (Science SARU) — 78.7. A brand-new take on the cyberpunk monument, and the most-watched new project of the summer with 45M+ views of pre-season buzz.
- BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War — The Calamity (PIERROT FILMS) — 65.4. The final TYBW arc keeps BLEACH's revival among the most-watched things in anime.
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising (Shaft) — 54.9. A theatrical Madoka event more than a decade in the making, already pulling 27M+ views.
If you wanted proof that 2026's summer is a nostalgia-and-sequels season, there it is: four of the top four are franchises that were already famous ten years ago.
The dark horse to watch
Amid the giants, the highest-ranked quirky original pick is Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (Asahi Production) at 35.2 — a low-key adult slice-of-life that has no business hanging with Ghost in the Shell on raw buzz, and yet here it is at #5. That's the kind of overperformance worth keeping an eye on.
Just behind it: dance-drama The World Is Dancing (30.0), and returning crowd-pleasers like Trapped in a Dating Sim Season 2 and The 100 Girlfriends Season 3.
The honest caveat
Early-season Buzz Scores are trailer-driven. Nobody has seen most of these episodes yet; what we're measuring right now is anticipation — PV views, hype clips, and community tracking. The really interesting movement starts once episodes air and word-of-mouth kicks in. Expect this board to reshuffle hard over the next few weeks, and expect at least one show nobody is talking about today to climb into the top ten. (That's not a prediction of which one — that's just what happens every season.)
