About AnimeBuzz

AnimeBuzz is an independent anime discovery site. Most ranking sites show you what's heavily promoted. We wanted to show what's actually getting attention — measured from real, public engagement data.

How the Buzz Score works

Every anime gets a Buzz Score from 0 to 100. Instead of marketing budgets, it's built from real fan engagement, blended from four public signals:

  • 60%YouTube views — trailers, clips and reaction videos published in the past 12 months. The strongest signal of what people are actually watching and talking about.
  • 15%YouTube likes — not just views, but positive reactions to that content.
  • 20%AniList popularity — how many community members are tracking the title.
  • 5%AniList favourites — the most dedicated fans marking it as a favourite.

Only the past 12 months count

A sequel inherits years of trailers, openings and clips from the seasons before it. Counting all of them would rank the franchise, not the show airing now — so only videos published in the last 12 months are counted. The all-time total is still shown next to it, it just doesn't feed the score. Twelve months rather than three, because teaser trailers often land a year before a premiere.

Fair normalization

Raw numbers can't simply be added — millions of views versus a few thousand favourites. Each metric is first normalized: scaled against the 95th-percentile value across current-season titles, rather than the single biggest hit. That way one mega-viral show can't flatten everything else to zero, and the scores stay well distributed.

Current season first

The main Buzz ranking is about what's hot right now, so the scale is calibrated on the current season only, and classic back-catalog titles are kept separate in the all-time ranking. Scores are recorded daily, so we can track how a show's buzz rises and falls over time.

What it does — and doesn't — measure

The Buzz Score measures attention and momentum, not artistic quality. A quiet masterpiece can have a modest Buzz Score; for critical reception we show the separate AniList community score on each title. Shows without official YouTube clips may also be under-counted. It's one honest lens, not the final word.

Data sources

Anime information comes from the AniList API, engagement data from the YouTube Data API, and opening/ending songs from AnimeThemes.moe. Rankings refresh automatically every day.
